Chris Plowman our chef at Shillingstone will be taking a day off from preparing School Meals and instead will be spending a day in Rick Stein’s Sandbanks Restaurant! This exciting opportunity comes as part of LACA National School Meals Week (NSMW) ‘Host a School Chef’ programme and Local Food Links are delighted to have been selected to take part.
Now in its fourth year the popular scheme offers school chefs the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the catering industry, in some of the most celebrated restaurants in the country.
LACA Chair of Events Neil Porter said: –
“It is tremendous for LACA to be celebrating NSMW with a placement for our ‘Host a School Chef’ initiative in such an outstanding venue as the Sandbanks restaurant. On behalf of the LACA board and all concerned with NSMW, we would like to thank Rick Stein and his colleagues for being so inclusive and extending an invitation for a school chef to join them in the kitchens of Sandbanks”.
Chris, who previously worked in pubs and restaurants, has worked for Local Food Links for 2 years and describes the role as his best job ever! He loves cooking for children and is currently through to the second stage of the LACA School Chef of the Year competition!
Local Food Links provide hot school meals for 34 schools in Dorset and are passionate about producing great quality food, using local produce for the children to enjoy.
Our Chief Executive Caroline Morgan commented: “Chris is a dedicated and enthusiastic member of our team and we are delighted that he has this fantastic opportunity to work in Rick Stein’s restaurant for the day. School meals is an exciting sector where chefs work extremely hard to provide balanced meals for some very tough young critics! It’s fantastic that school chefs are now recognised for the outstanding skills they have”.
